Obagi Peel FAQ’s

  • No. This is a superficial, Salicylic Acid face peel, so generally no skin preparation is required. You can have it on the day of your appointment, irrespective of ethinicity and skin type.

    However, if your skin barrier is impaired (dry) then you will need to prepare the skin before your Obagi Blue Radiance Peel. Our therapists will be able to provide you with medical skincare products to restore your skin barrier before your peel.

  • The number of treatments needed varies depending on the type of peel and the skin concern(s) being treated.

    For example, as a chemical peel for acne or for hyperpigmentation you would need a course of treatments.

  • Depending on your skin type and home care regimen, a skin peel may cause increased sensitivity.

    Our therapists will discuss the aftercare process with you before your treatment.

  • There is minimal recovery time with Obagi Blue Radiance Skin Peels, although this can vary depending on individual skin condition and skin type.

What is The Process?

The Cosmelan peel involves a two-step process.

In Clinic

The first step involves the application of a highly potent depigmenting thick, mud-like mask that contains Azelaic Acid, Kojic Acid, Phytic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Arbutine, and Titanium Dioxide.


This is applied at the clinic and it should remain on the face for 8-12 hours, but the total amount of time depends on your skin type and the amount of hyperpigmentation being treated.

At Home

Since the Cosmelan Peel is a two-step process, you will be instructed to apply a second topical anti-spot cream twice a day at home. You will receive additional products and detailed instructions for your strict at-home maintenance program. It is essential to follow a home care routine to maintain the results.

Over the next 7-10 days, you may experience redness, tenderness, inflammation and peeling which is all normal and part of the process to get the best results.


Your skin will begin to peel two or three days after the initial application of the mask. Whilst the skin is peeling, you must not pick or pull the dead skin and use the aftercare products to hydrate the skin. You may experience redness, itchiness, and tightness on the treatment area.

  • It treats all hyperpigmentation, especially melasma.

  • You may experience mild to moderate discomfort and redness, like a sunburn.

    Your skin may also itch or feel tight. It is recommended to avoid direct sun exposure following a Cosmelan treatment and to wear a broadspectrum SPF30 every day before, during and following treatment.

  • Most clients experience a dramatic reduction in the appearance of unwanted pigmentation following just one session.

    To ensure long-lasting results, it is recommended to use a recommended regime of specific home care products.
